Broken, but Repairable

It’s easy to look around and see the world in pieces, filled with problems and injustice, wishing we could fix it all. But before we can make a difference out there, we first need to face what’s inside of us. Why? Because we all have our broken pieces, whether it’s self-doubt, insecurity, or open wounds. The hardest part is realizing that true change starts within.
You’ve probably been there—feeling lost, wondering why life keeps pressing down, and questioning if things will ever get better. It’s tempting to focus on fixing everything around us, but the reality is the first thing that needs fixing is us. Only when we address our brokenness can we begin to heal and move forward with clarity.
Jim Quinn shared a story that hits this topic head-on.
A father’s four-year-old son came running down the stairs, eagerly shouting when his dad came home, hoping for some playtime. Much to the toddler’s disappointment, Dad put him off and headed for the living room to relax.
The next day, the boy, hopeful again, saw his dad settling in on the couch to watch TV. The father, with his mind set on enjoying a football game, created a diversion to buy some time. On the table was a magazine with a picture of planet Earth on its cover, taken from space. He ripped it off, tore the picture into tiny puzzle-like pieces, gave his son a roll of clear scotch tape, and said, “When you put the picture back together, we’ll play, okay?”
The boy agreed and went to work, while his dad slumped back on the couch, assuming it would take hours for the boy to finish. Minutes later, the boy came running back, shouting, “I’m all done, Dad. I taped the picture back together!”
Astonished, his dad asked how he finished so quickly. The little boy smiled and said, “When you tore the cover off, I saw a picture of a man on the back. I knew if I put the man back together, the world would come together too.”
What a powerful message! When we stop trying to fix everything around us and focus on healing the broken parts within ourselves, the world will naturally come together.
If you’re feeling broken today, take heart. The journey to restoring what’s wrong in the world begins with restoring what’s broken inside of you. As you heal, you’ll be better equipped to make a meaningful impact on those around you.
